How can I paint tiles in the bathroom?

painting tiles

Painting bathroom tiles is an easy and inexpensive way to update your interior. But not everything is solved by painting the tiles in the bathroom: mainly due to a lack of information and theoretical knowledge. In this blog, we will explain what suitable materials exist and talk about the main mistakes.

It is not difficult to qualitatively paint the tiles in the bathroom, it is much more difficult to do it qualitatively. So that the coating does not crack or peel off the surface after a short period of time.

The first thing to consider is the water resistance of the material. Even if you're painting regular bathroom walls, washable and super-resistant paint is required, not to mention tile painting. Find out which composition is best in the next section.

The next important nuance is a smooth non-porous surface. Glazed ceramic tiles are not intended for painting - the paint will not be able to penetrate into it, which means it will not hold firmly. Fortunately, there are special primers - they are suitable for non-porous glossy substrates, adhere firmly to the wall, and improve paint adhesion.

The last important detail is simple care. Wall and floor coverings in the bathroom must withstand not only the ingress of water - they will have to be washed more often than others. Savings during repairs in this case may affect the quality and stability of the painted coating.

What kind of paint can be used to paint the tiles in the kitchen or bathroom?

33.3% of success in painting tiles is the choice of the right materials, 33.3% in the quality preparation of the base and 33.3% in the skills of the master. Let's start with the first and most important paint choice.

Oil paints

The cheapest remedy known since ancient times. Oil formulations are distinguished from others by the presence of a pungent odor: it is quite difficult to work with them, especially in a closed unventilated space. But after drying, the smell does not remain, and the surface is a durable film that will remain unchanged for many years.

Paint colors in any paint shop can be mixed into the desired shade.

latex paints

Latex is a pure polymer with elasticity and increased plasticity. Paints containing rubber additives have the same characteristics: they do not pass water, they are easy to clean, they show cracks and small surface defects.

Despite the “rubberized” texture, latex paints breathe, which means the development of a microclimate in the bathroom. True, there are also disadvantages: mold and fungus can form on the surface. Another disadvantage is a decrease in light sensitivity, so if the room has a window, it is better to choose a non-fading epoxy enamel.

Epoxy paints

The strongest and most durable option is epoxy. It has the properties of a resin, only easier to use. Although applying paint is not easy - if you need a really high-quality result, entrust the work to professionals who already have experience with epoxy.

Lying down on ceramic tiles, epoxy paint creates a waterproof, refractory, resistant to mechanical abrasion and fading plane.

Preparation

When the right quality paint is selected, you can start. But before starting work, it is required to prepare the surfaces.

In any finishing work, the preparation stage is almost the key: the beauty of the application, the service life of the paint and other important characteristics will depend on how well you prepare the ceramic tile.

It doesn't take a lot of courage to decide to paint a tile, it's not as unusual as it looks, besides, it's quite easy to compare prices for painting and replacement, including the purchase of a new one.

Our team of professionals always approach the painting of tiles with all responsibility, prepare the tiles and use high-quality paint, then our work will last for many years.
